JW Threatened me with Violence Today :)
by cofty ini popped into the supermarket for a few things after work today and found myself walking up an aisle alongside a couple who used to be in my tuesday group.
i see them reasonably often and always say hello much to their obvious annoyance.
i noticed that ian was sporting a shaggy beard.

Getting the Urge!
by Theburstbubble inevening folks, so as some of you may know we have recently decided to leave the witnesses and can see it for the man made organisation it is.
so, why do i get the urge to go back and feel guilty for not being there!
it's like my mind is telling me to be logical about it all but then something keeps pulling me back.. don't get me wrong i really want to break free from it all and i'm resisting the urge to go back as i have been miserable in the truth for a long time as i've known it's not right and want to do the best by my daughter.

My advise is to read the "apostate" literature such as Raymond Franz Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom (available free in PDF). After doing that you'll likely have less and less desire to go back. -

How Scary Are Circuit Overseers Now?
by minimus inback in the day, when the co came to the congregation, it was quite stressful for the elders and often, the rank and file.
.
is it as big a deal as it used to be?.

Just out of curiosity, how can a CO be deleted if circumstances should call for it? -

The elders of the 1980s are now in their 60s and 70s
by truthseeker inhaving just come back from the uk and spoke with some witnesses to find out how my old congregation is doing, i realized i am now the age that my elders were when i was a kid.
and i wonder what the elders who are now in their 60s and 70s are thinking when they look in the mirror and an old face looks back at them.
many of the elders in my old hall are now retired.

What went wrong in your congregation?
by The Rebel inthe target is converts.. why does it seem such an outrageous aim for a congregation to recruit new converts?.
in my old congregation, the enthusiasm was there but the knocking on doors produced zero " baptisms" in my final years.. a) why so little interests?.
b) was it the internet ?.

The Watchtower is always changing it's procedures so it's understandable that he would be asked if there was a change. However I would have asked Spinks why he was doing things differently than the Flock book. -

If I understand this correctly Spinks is implying that his procedure would be different than the Shepherd the Flock book. Of course, the elders don't have that latitude. -

How many here believed, down deep in your heart that the end would come in 1975?
by James Mixon ini was straddling the fence on that one, just in case they were right.
i don't recall.

I was 15-16 in 1975 after having been a witness for 2 years. I was deep into the chronology bit but it wasn't 1975 that affected me, it was the 1914+generation that I emphasized to myself.
It was around 1974 that I went to a large special meeting to hear a talk given by none other than Fred Franz. In front of 10,000 people he gave a long winded talk explaining his panoramic view of history from Creation till the end times.
He explained the 7,000 year creation days and tied it in with the 6,000 year chronology starting with the creation of Adam and Eve and ending with Armageddon. He explained that there was an "Adam and Eve gap" that made the exact day or month of Armageddon impossible to predict but that the end would come within months to a few years of 1975. He specifically said it would not take decades for that to happen because that would have meant that Adam was alone for such a long period of time that he would have been "tempted into bestiality." He posed a rhetorical question saying "Would Jehovah allow Adam to be tempted into bestiality?" Then he answered his own question and said "No brothers and sisters".
I remember recording that talk but I have no idea where that tape cassette is or if I even still have it.
I also remember being in the Kingdom Hall during the theocratic ministry school when they read the Kingdom Ministry program that spoke of people selling their houses to preach in the short time available and encouraging it.
I lasted until 1980. It wasn't until a few years after I had dropped my Watchtower persona that I read detailed rebuttals by "apostates" on the entire JW Chronological voodoo. Nothing surprised me about it.
